International Seminar of Narrative Psychology and Education (1):Skills for Bullying Prevention

This is the first international seminar of narrative psychology and education. “Bullying” issue is the priority theme which has been examined from various aspects by the Society for Narrative and Qualitative Studies. The reason is that support of this issue is important not only in educational settings but is widely applicable in other areas. Narrative approach is considered as effective for this because it allows various narratives viewed from the involved persons in the complex fields.

This international seminar focuses both on concrete techniques and advanced programs for prevention and support in educational settings. I have been conducting collaborative research and international collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria in Austria for a long time. In part I of this seminar Dr. Takuya Yanagida lectures on the “prevention education program concerning bullying and so on: effectiveness of the ViSC social competence program.” Commentary and comment to the lecture is provided by Prof. Yuichi Toda of Osaka University of Education, who is the leading expert of bullying research in Japan. In the second part, Prof. Kazuo Takeuchi of University of Hyogo lectures on “how to understand and tackle 'Smart' online problems,” which is the hottest theme in educational settings. Then, based on these two lectures discussion is held from various angles.
