NIIYAMA Tomoki
My name is Tomoki Niiyama and I work as a postdoctoral fellow of the Global COE Program Ars Vivendi in School Year 2011. I have conducted research both on the actual condition of Buruli ulcer, which is one of the infectious diseases mainly found in tropical and subtropic regions, and on the international support for the disease. Although the pathogenetic basis of Buruli ulcer is figured out, its infection source and infection route are still under investigation. According to WHO, Buruli ulcer could become a serious infectious disease following tuberculosis and Hansen's disease. I have conducted research on international support for the disease based on the actual social and economic condition in West Africa (Ghana, Togo and Benin) and I myself have also been involved in its support activities.
