MATSUBARA Yoko

My specialized research areas are history of science, scientific theory and bioethics. Changes or differences of people's bodies lead me to be interested in an ideal way of technology. Technology not only works with people's bodies through medical care and welfare but emerges together with its usage due to the existence of people with diseases and disabilities, and their supporters. Techonology is also used in order for the society to tame disadvantageous bodies. Moreover, now innovation, which crosses boundaries between people and animals, living things and nonliving ones, makes the relationship between bodies and technology, and poses an ethical question for us. The Research Center for Ars Vivendi has developed various research activities concenring these themes, and I myself has been involved in collaborative research activities on reproductive-related technology and assistive technology for people with disabilities.
