Sociological Research on the dynamic state of lives/practices of minorities and the dynamics of political intervention in regional communities

The aim of this project is to examine and analyze the various (dynamic) ways of life of minoritiess and the survival strategies/skills, either voluntarily chosen by or imposed upon them in the course of existence in regional communities constituting their life-world. Conventional research on minorities tends to only enumalate the various problems or only criticize the social norms. This project, on the other hand, strives to understand the concrete reality of practices/movements of minorities living in local society/community through participant observation and interviews. Project members will conduct research on a wide range of problems, such as disability, sex, burakumin areas, ethnicity, and illness. Our aim is to make the inquiry so thoroughly as to find the ideal policies, institutions, and relationships between the interested parties, and conduct intervention based on the findings of the scientific research, and this is the scientific originality of this project.
